IMO Podcast – hear from care leavers

The IMO Podcast: open and honest conversations with care leavers

IMO (which stands for ‘in my opinion’) is a spin off website run by the Children’s Commissioner for England, providing a place for care experienced children and young people to tell and share their stories.

IMO produces a podcast series called The IMO Podcast, which has returned for a second series and gives young care experienced people a space to tell their stories on their own terms. The podcast has recently been nominated for Best New Podcast at the British Podcast Awards

We wanted the process of taking part in the podcast to be an enriching and rewarding one for our contributors. We wanted them to end up with something they were really proud of. We didn’t want to shy away from complex issues, but we also wanted to present a nuanced portrait of each guest, not simply to define them by their care status. Even though we talk about difficult topics their resilience shines through and there are many moments of joy and laughter.

We hope the interviews will provide inspiration and hope for other care leavers and prove a useful resource for professionals. We cover a range of issues including criminalisation, sibling contact, mental health and the first night in care.

A huge thank you to all our guests, we’re really proud of their contribution and we appreciate their openness and honesty.

Subscribe to the IMO podcast on Google or Apple podcasts to hear episodes as they’re released.
